Step 5 — Send grades back to Schoology

What this does: Explains how approved grades reach the Schoology gradebook and how to confirm they arrived correctly.

How grades are sent

Grades are sent to Schoology only when you click Approve or Approve with Edit. The Reject action does not send any grade. Once you approve a submission, Assess writes the score directly to the Schoology gradebook column for that assignment.

Steps to confirm the grade landed

  1. After clicking Approve or Approve with Edit, note that the submission’s status badge in the middle column changes to Approved.
  2. Open Schoology in a separate tab or navigate to your Schoology gradebook.
  3. Locate the assignment column and find the student’s row. The score you approved should appear there.
  4. If the score appears, the process is complete.

If the grade is not in the Schoology gradebook

  1. Return to Assess and verify the submission shows a status of Approved. If it does not, click Approve or Approve with Edit again.
  2. Wait about 30 seconds, then refresh your Schoology gradebook page and check again.
  3. If the grade still does not appear after re-approving and refreshing, contact your district Schoology administrator and provide the student name, assignment name, and the time you approved the submission.

If something looks off

If the gradebook shows a different score than the one you approved, this may indicate a sync conflict with a grade entered directly in Schoology. Contact your administrator to resolve which score should take precedence.
