Step 4 — Approve, edit, reject, or re-run

Last updated: June 9, 2026

What this does: Describes what each of the four action buttons does and when to use each one. You make the final decision on every submission.

The four buttons

ButtonWhat it doesWhen to use it
ApproveSends the AI score and feedback to the Schoology gradebook exactly as shown. When the AI score and feedback are correct and need no changes.
Approve with EditSends your edited score and feedback to the Schoology gradebook. When the AI result is close but you want to adjust the score or feedback before sending.
RejectDiscards the AI suggestion. No grade is sent to Schoology. When the AI result is too inaccurate to use as a starting point. You can re-run afterward or grade manually in Schoology.
Re-runSends the submission through AI grading again and replaces the current evaluation with a new one. When the evaluation appears to have failed or produced a clearly incorrect result you want a second attempt on.

How to edit the score or feedback before approving

  1. In the Evaluation panel, click into the Score field and type your preferred score.
  2. Click into the Feedback box and revise the text as needed.
  3. Click Approve with Edit to send your version to the gradebook.

When to reject

Reject when the AI score is significantly wrong and the rationale does not reflect what the student wrote. Rejection does not penalize the student — it simply means no automated grade is recorded, and you can grade the assignment through Schoology directly.

When to re-run

Re-run when the submission shows a Failed status, or when the rationale is clearly off-topic and you want the AI to try the submission again. Re-running replaces the previous evaluation.

If something looks off

If a button does not respond, try refreshing Assess by re-selecting the submission. If the problem persists, note the student name and assignment, and contact your administrator.
