Assess in 5 Steps
- Open Assess — Click the Assess link inside your Schoology assignment.
- Sync submissions — Click Sync Submissions to load student work.
- Wait for grading — Status moves from Processing to Needs Review. Refresh or re-sync if needed.
- Review each suggestion — Read the AI score, confidence, rationale, and the student’s actual work.
- Make your decision — Approve, Approve with Edit, or Reject. Only then does a grade reach the gradebook.
Status Badge Legend
| Badge | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Pending | Submission received; grading has not started yet. |
| Processing | The AI is evaluating the work now. Wait and re-sync. |
| Needs Review | AI evaluation is ready. Your action is required. |
| Approved | You approved the grade; it has been sent to Schoology. |
| Rejected | You rejected the AI suggestion. Grade manually in Schoology. |
| Failed | The AI could not process the submission. Try Re-run. |
What Each Button Does
| Button | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Approve | Sends the AI’s score and feedback to Schoology as-is. |
| Approve with Edit | Lets you change the score or feedback first, then sends it to Schoology. |
| Reject | Discards the AI suggestion. No grade is sent; grade manually. |
| Re-run | Asks the AI to evaluate the submission again from scratch. |
When to Double-Check More Carefully
- Low confidence bar — The AI was unsure. Read the work yourself before deciding.
- Handwriting or photos — The AI may misread scanned or photographed work.
- Math, equations, or symbols — These are harder for the AI to interpret accurately.
- Very short answers — Little text means little evidence for the AI to work from.
- Creative or unexpected responses — The AI may not recognize valid unconventional approaches.
